Exploring Social Media Over Child’s Development

    Social media defined by its interactive and user generated content has largely became a tool and a toy. Now days social media is so called ‘net generation’. The older generation is the fastest growing segment of social networking. Social media include blog, photo sharing sites and online social networking sites have allowed peer to share thoughts, message, information, images and videos. As we all know, social media have it’s positive and negative sides. Positive side will definitely be a smooth side like interaction with friends like messaging, sharing post and videos etc. Negative side could be venerable like interacting with stranger who can mislead your personal profile, photos and information in unhealthy manner. Child's development will directly effect on there behavior, physical and emotional sides too with more serious consequences. Social media mainly deals with emotions and makes the individual excited and depression.

    Nowadays, the ability to access social media is more than the limits. Social even allow us to learn and pick up technical skills which will help in future. We all know, the downside on social media is the addiction is created. Mostly young children and youngsters are addicted to social media and they end up spending hours, each day. Being online 24/7 could even disrupts other works. The virtual world of social media deals with emotions and could mislead in social development of individuals.

    • The number of sexual assault cases related to social media has increased by 300%.
    • 12% of teens says they witnessed unpleasant behavior “frequently” on social media sites.
    • 15% of teens say they were the target of online cruelty.
    • 41% of teens had a negative experience as a result of using of social networking site.
    • 39% teens think their online activity is private from everyone, including parents.
    • 63% of Facebook users are under the age of 10-13 year old.
    The effect on teen is much more stronger. Parents should take care of their child's activities and protect them from the worst effect of social media. Parents can help their children to be safe and secure from social media. Parents should encourage their children to engage and communicate in real life, rather than online networking. Teach them or encourage them on their other interests and passion in other activity. Most important is to ensuring that they spend only as enough time on it is useful for their skill development. Even the adult age group are also harmed due to social media’s addiction. Adults fall in depression, stress and anxiety which can even cause to harming themselves or death. Parents should have a look on to children let it be any age because social media is a big platform where many teenagers and adults lost their lives or harming themselves.
