    About The Campaign

#NorthEastMatters is a campaign against the discrimination and the many injustices faced by the people from the North-Eastern states of India. Our aim is to sensitize all sections of society towards the contributions made by the people of the North East region. We are working towards building a more inclusive society, where the idea of 'unity in diversity' is emphasized.

Through this campaign, we have mainly tried to battle:

    1. The lack of awareness among people about the contributions, histories, and diverse realities of our fellow citizens living in the North-Eastern region. As a large portion of society continues to overshadow the struggles of our fellow North Eastern friends, through this campaign we aim to share their accounts of battling misconceptions and prejudices that lead to eventual discrimination.
    2. Institutional Discrimination. There are cases of lack of support from authorities and barriers to entry into institutions due to no affirmative action.
    3. Stereotyping, which is a byproduct of the other two problems.

How are we achieving our goals?

To reach out easily to the youth, we have extensively used infographics and memes on all our social media platforms to raise awareness about the injustices, the existing stereotypes, and also shared information about the North Eastern region to familiarise people with this part of our country.

We have also conducted live sessions with eminent personalities who shared their knowledge and experience with us about the North-Eastern states. We have used the power of Twitter to draw attention on the impact of the yearly Assam Floods. With hard work and dedication, our team trended the hashtag #NorthEastMatters and #AssamFloods is India's number 2 trending hashtag and number 1 in all states of North East India with over 1 lakh tweets on Twitter. On top of that, our community managers recorded videos in 65+ Indian languages including Liangmai, Aao, Poula, affirming their commitment to fighting against the discrimination faced by people of the North East Region.
